Custom apps
Bring data from your own software into Worklynq — a loyalty app, an ordering or booking system, anything built for your business. Your app’s developers add a small, key-protected data feed, your System Admin adds the app in Worklynq, and its data shows up in your dashboards and reports. No waiting for us to build a connector.
What it does
- Every dataset your app shares — customers, visits, bookings, rewards — becomes a source for Dashboards & Reports.
- Count records, total or average any number, split by categories like status or tier, show trends over time, or list records — for example, “Gold members with more than 100 points”.
- Works with everything else in dashboards: Describe a dashboard, Explain, and scheduled reports.
- Read-only. Worklynq only reads from the feed and never changes anything in your app.
Before you start
- Your app needs a Worklynq data feed. Send your developers the feed spec — it’s one page. They’ll give you the feed’s address and a key.
- You need to be your workspace’s System Admin.
Add your app
- Open Admin console → Connectors → Custom apps and click Add custom app.
- Enter the app’s name, the feed address (it starts with
https://), and the key from your developers. - Click Test feed. Worklynq lists the datasets it found.
- Click Add app.
Use it in dashboards
In Dashboards or Reports, add a widget and pick App name: Dataset under Data from. Then choose:
- What to show: the number of records, or the total or average of a number field (points, visits, spend).
- How to split it: by a category field, in the order your app lists its values — Bronze, Silver, Gold.
- When: any range from today to the last 12 months, or All time — the default, so balances and current totals include everyone.
- How to show it: a number, bars, a table, a list, or a trend over time when the dataset has a date.
- Filter: for example
status:gold points:>100or-status:bronze. Every part must match.
Or just describe it: “a dashboard of loyalty members by status, with points totals” — AI builds it from your app’s real fields.
Who can see the data
By default, only System Admins can use a custom app’s data. To share a dataset, a System Admin opens Dashboards → Connected data and changes who can use it. Widgets always run as the person looking, so people without access see a note instead of the numbers.
Manage your app
- Preview the first records of a dataset to check what Worklynq sees.
- Refresh datasets after your app adds new data or fields.
- Change the feed address or key — Worklynq tests the new one before saving.
- Pause an app to stop reading from it, or remove it. Adding the same feed address again brings its widgets back.
- Changes in your app show up within 5 minutes.
Security
- The key is stored encrypted and never shown again — Worklynq shows only its last four characters.
- Feeds must use https on a public address. Worklynq won’t connect to private networks and doesn’t follow redirects.
- Only System Admins can add, change, preview, or remove apps.
- Share only what your dashboards need — the feed spec asks developers to leave out emails, phone numbers, and other personal details unless you need them.
Troubleshooting
- The app shows “Needs attention”
- The feed stopped answering or rejected the key. The message shows your app’s own error — pass it to your developers.
- Test feed fails
- Check the address starts with
https://, has nothing after a?, and is reachable from the internet; then check the key. - A new field or dataset is missing
- Click Refresh datasets.
- Numbers look out of date
- Worklynq keeps answers for up to 5 minutes. If they’re older than that, check whether the app is paused.
